Calorie Burning for Fat Loss

I was running with a client of mine early this morning, we got talking about how many calories are burnt during exercise. This came about as my client had been on a Spa day and had noticed in the Gym that on the treadmill it was saying how many calories are burned of during 1 hour of exercise, it was “only” 500 calories.
We discussed that it seems along time and alot of work for “only” 500 calories. However you have to consider if you did that every day, you would burn 3500 calories which is the equivalent to 1 pound of fat.
Another consideration is the calories burned after exercise as the body recovers and rebuilds, as well as the effect on your metabolism. This calorie burning will be more then if you do no exercise, so you shed more calories even when you have fininshed exercise. If you undertake resistance training you will burn even more calories for a longer time upto 24 hrs after your workout.
In colnclusion if you want to lose weight you should do resistance training with cardio work, both should be done intensely, so don’t be afraid of using heavier weights and less repetitions – one of the biggest mistakes I see is ladies training with light weight and high reps, if you want to tone up and burn calories for longer DON”T do it you can achieve more in less time by pushing yourself to go heavier….trust me you are not going to suddenly grow huge muscle and look like a female Arnie. So train smarter and achieve more, quicker.
Good Luck
